Poilievre made the remarks as he outlined his vision for Canada-US relations.
In a speech at the Economic Club of Canada outlining his vision for Canada-U.S. relations, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre mentioned U.S. President Donald Trump by name and criticized him for his “51st State” rhetoric. Poilievre also countered Trump’s false claims about the U.S. trade deficit with Canada, noting that the U.S. benefits by getting Canadian energy at below market prices. In addition, Poilievre said Trump was wrong to ignore the sacrifices Canadians made in Afghanistan “exclusively in response to an attack on our American neighbours.”
The strong remarks represent Poilievre’s most direct criticism of the U.S. President in quite some time and align well with the overwhelmingly negative opinion held by the vast majority of the Canadian public toward the U.S. President.

If this piece left you clearer than it found you, that's the point. I write for readers who want to think past the week, to see the longer pattern beneath the daily story, and to come away steadier rather than more agitated.
That longer view gets built somewhere. On Patreon, essay by essay, I'm constructing The Long Work, a body of analysis meant to outlast the news cycle that prompted it. The readers there make it possible. No subsidies, no strings. The work answers to them.
$8/month to read it as it's built, and to have a hand in building it.
