German Chancellor Angela Merkel has issued a chilling warning.
She says 60% to 70% of the German population will become infected with Coronavirus.
“When the virus is out there, the population has no immunity and no therapy exists, then 60 to 70% of the population will be infected,” said Merkel at a news conference.
“The process has to be focused on not overburdening the health system by slowing the virus’s spread. It’s about winning time.”
Merkel reportedly made that statement first to legislators, and stunned silence filled the room.
With a population of 82 million, a 60% infection rate would mean 49.2 million infections.
Assuming a 2% death rate (it’s been closer to 3%), that would mean 984,000 deaths.
If 70% get Coronavirus in Germany, that would mean 57.4 million infections. If 3% died, that would mean 1.7 million deaths.
Considering that Germany has one of the most well-funded and advanced healthcare systems in the world, the fact that they are simply giving in to the disease and expecting it to sweep the country is highly disturbing.
It seems Germany is at the point where they feel Coronavirus cannot be fought, and can only be managed, with the goal of ensuring the spread of the disease takes place overtime, rather than all at once which would destroy the healthcare system.
