Reports: Ontario Curfew Off The Table

Will this be followed by another reversal?

After reports indicated the Ontario government was considering a Quebec-style curfew on residents, it is now being reported that has been taken off the table.

As reported by Brian Lilley, the government has said a curfew will not be imposed:

“The Ford government has started their cabinet meeting where new restrictions, including possibly invoking a second state of emergency, will be discussed. Curfew is off the table.

Don’t expect a short meeting. It starts at 5 & will last for hours. #onpoli #covid19Ontario #lockdown”

This is good to see, a rare moment of sanity in what feels like an otherwise insane time, and it’s good that Ford has rejected a curfew.

The concern is that other lockdown measures continue, leaving people isolated, small businesses crushed, and big box stores taking advantage.

Further, there is a justifiable concern that this latest reversal could be reversed again, owning to the inconsistency in government statements and policy that has characterized this crisis.

Still, we are seeing that the outrage many people felt about curfews and the escalating restrictions on freedom are getting through to some people in power, and it’s why we must continue to speak up.
