Conservatives Call For Liberals To Come Up With Re-Opening Plan

Party is presenting Opposition Day Motion calling for the Liberals to figure out a plan to re-open.

The Conservatives are calling on the Liberals to come up with a ‘data-driven plan to support gradually, safely, and permanently lifting COVID-19 restrictions.

“WATCH: Erin O’Toole outlines new Conservative Party motion, calling on the government to provide ‘’within 20 days, a clear data-driven plan to support gradually, safely and permanently lifting COVID-19 restrictions.’”

Here’s what they said in a press release:

“The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued the following statement on the Conservative Opposition Day motion calling on the Trudeau Liberals to present a plan for when COVID-19 restrictions can be safely eased:

“Canadians need a plan for hope. They need to know that things are going to get better and that the ‘new normal’ is not okay.

“To say that the mental health of Canadians has been impacted due to the pandemic is an understatement. Over last year we have seen a dramatic rise of mental health issues, addictions, and overdoses that have become the pandemic of tears within the COVID-19 pandemic. Things must change.

“By now, Canadians should know when things are going to turn the corner and what metrics we are using to determine a plan for re-opening. We can’t keep asking Canadians to sacrifice more without being clear about when restrictions will be eased.

“That’s why Canada’s Conservatives have put forward a motion calling on Justin Trudeau to present a clear, data-driven plan to support gradually, safely, and permanently lifting COVID-19 restrictions. A plan that shows there are better days ahead for our country.

“Canadians deserve to know when their life can return to normal. We owe it to the countless Canadians who have sacrificed so much during this pandemic.”

March 18, 2021 — Ms. Rempel Garner (Calgary Nose Hill) — That, given that,

(i) COVID-19 restrictions have had serious economic and mental health impacts on Canadians,

(ii) COVID-19 restrictions have been advised by the federal government, including specifically by the Prime Minister on three separate occasions in November of 2020, as temporary measures to alleviate pressure on the public healthcare system,

(iii) public health tools, such as rapid tests, shared data on how COVID-19 spreads and vaccines, have not been positioned as permanent solutions to replace COVID-19 restrictions by the federal government, including in areas of federal competency like air travel and border restrictions,

(iv) the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom have both released public plans for economic reopening, while Canadian officials have not yet given Canadians clarity on when regular economic and social life will be able to resume, the House call on the government to table within 20 calendar days, following the adoption of this motion, a clear data-driven plan to support safely, gradually and permanently lifting COVID-19 restrictions.
