For Canada’s ‘Leaders,’ It’s About Compliance, Not Health

The undeniable reality.

Have you noticed how events in Canada have really moved in only one direction?

Compliance at all costs.

The trend has been clear:

More and more control, more and more threats of punishment, and more and more demands for compliance.

Draconian national vaccine mandate

At one point, the idea of a vaccine mandate was seen as a ‘conspiracy theory.’

Funny how nearly every ‘conspiracy theory’ has turned out to be a prediction.

And so it is with the national vaccine mandate, the new draconian measure being implemented by the Liberals.

Starting November 30th, all travellers on planes on Via Rail trains will have to show proof of vaccination.

In disturbing language, Chrystia Freeland described the measures this way:

She said the national vaccine mandate is “to ensure a minority of people cannot sabotage Canada’s economic recovery and cannot allow the fourth wave or other variants to cause real problems for us all.”

Note what is left out of the vaccine mandate?

Proof of immunity/proof of being virus-free.

If the goal was to truly ensure that the virus wasn’t spreading on planes or trains, it would be sufficient to simply have people present a negative test.

That’s it.

Individuals who had previously had Covid can also demonstrate proof of immunity.

The point is that there are clear, scientific alternatives to demanding proof of vaccination – if the goal is actually to be focused on reducing the spread of the virus on airplanes and trains.

Consider natural immunity.

Here’s what Marty Makary – a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health, editor-in-chief of Medpage Today – wrote in the Washington Post:

“It’s okay to have an incorrect scientific hypothesis. But when new data proves it wrong, you have to adapt. Unfortunately, many elected leaders and public health officials have held on far too long to the hypothesis that natural immunity offers unreliable protection against covid-19 — a contention that is being rapidly debunked by science.

More than 15 studies have demonstrated the power of immunity acquired by previously having the virus. A 700,000-person study from Israel two weeks ago found that those who had experienced prior infections were 27 times less likely to get a second symptomatic covid infection than those who were vaccinated. This affirmed a June Cleveland Clinic study of health-care workers (who are often exposed to the virus), in which none who had previously tested positive for the coronavirus got reinfected. The study authors concluded that “individuals who have had SARS-CoV-2 infection are unlikely to benefit from covid-19 vaccination.” And in May, a Washington University study found that even a mild covid infection resulted in long-lasting immunity.

So, the emerging science suggests that natural immunity is as good as or better than vaccine-induced immunity. That’s why it’s so frustrating that the Biden administration has repeatedly argued that immunity conferred by vaccines is preferable to immunity caused by natural infection, as NIH director Francis Collins told Fox News host told Bret Baier a few weeks ago. That rigid adherence to an outdated theory is also reflected in President Biden’s recent announcement that large companies must require their employees to get vaccinated or submit to regular testing, regardless of whether they previously had the virus.”

What this means is that if our leaders were truly ‘following the science,’ then Canada would be ensuring that proof of immunity (and of course a negative test) would be a comparable alternative to requiring proof of vaccination.

That would be a logical approach.

But this isn’t about logic, science, or health.

It’s about compliance.

A control-obsessed political class

The idea of a national vaccine mandate is obviously a draconian restriction on freedom, and is an anti-science approach that should be opposed.

It has no business being implemented in a supposedly ‘free country.’

As we have seen however, most of our ‘leaders’ across the political spectrum have no interest in ‘freedom.’ Instead, they increasingly demand compliance.

What they really want is for people to obey them.

After all, if they had wanted to focus on health, they would have been warning about the dangers of obesity, they would have kept gyms open, they would have incentivized exercise and sought to make healthy food more affordable.

This past year and a half could have been a moment to finally address the fact that – even before covid – we were already a largely overweight and sick society.

Did any of that happen?

Nope.

Was there any innovation, creative thinking, or focus on the root problems of health.

Nope.

Instead, it’s all been about moving towards more control, and more fear.

Instead of helping people focus on what they can control, and how they can be empowered to improve their own health, we have gotten endless restrictions, draconian measures, and the dangerous demonization of unvaccinated Canadians, with no regard to natural immunity or the fact that people can show a negative test.

Attitudes revealed

Some have said that people have ‘gone crazy’ during this crisis.

However, I think the reality is that people have been revealed.

A large number of people (and nearly all politicians) have demonstrated that in a crisis they panic, lose any sense of proportion, are unable to think creatively, and double-down on the same failed approach over and over again.

Worse than that, they have shown that they would prefer to demonize and direct fear towards others, rather than seek to take responsibility for their own lives and their own health.

Rather than seek control over themselves, they seek control over others.

The remnant of freedom

The reality is that at this moment when so many people are locked into a fear-based mindset, and with so many politicians obsessed with control and domination, those Canadians who stand up for individual rights, freedom, and liberty are a small remnant.

But it’s remnants that hold on to values in difficult moments, and provide the foundation from which those values are renewed and rebuilt.

That’s why we must continue to stand up against measures like the national vaccine passport, and stand up for our fellow citizens who are being demonized by our pathetic and failed leaders.
