Does Trudeau Want To Be An American Senator, Or A Canadian Prime Minister?

Why do people fall for the ongoing pattern of the Liberal government acting as if events in the US require action here in Canada?

Once again, the Liberals are exploiting a tragedy in the United States in order to push their agenda here in Canada.

Following the Buffalo shooting, the Liberals talked about adding more restrictions on law-abiding Canadian gun owners. At the same time the government ignored gang crime.

Now, following the mass shooting at a school in Texas, the Trudeau Liberals are once again using a tragedy in the US for their own political benefit.

Here’s how CTV – one of many media institutions that plays into Trudeau’s narrative – described it:

“In the wake of a horrific mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has signalled that the Canadian government will be moving ahead on new gun-control measures “in the coming weeks.”

In previous Parliaments, the Liberals have made changes to Canada’s gun laws, including strengthening background check requirements and banning more than 1,500 models and variants of “assault-style” firearms. And, while some elements of their plans have still yet to come to fruition—including their proposed mandatory gun buyback program—in the 2021 federal election, Trudeau promised to go further.”

CTV also issued this Tweet:

“Rampant mass shootings in the U.S. have some Canadians demanding tougher gun laws to stop tragedies in this country.”

Note how there’s no mention of the fact that Canada has much stricter gun laws than the US, or that the increase in gun crime in Canada is a result of increased gang violence, not law-abiding gun owners.

This is a big reason that Justin Trudeau is able to get away with his cynical game of acting like a US Senator, rather than a Canadian Prime Minister.

Certainly, you would expect both Republican and Democratic Senators in the US to have a robust debate following a horrific tragedy, and both sides will put forth different policy ideas and debate the causes.

But Justin Trudeau isn’t an American Senator.

He’s a Canadian Prime Minister.

He governs a country with different laws and different challenges.

So, for him and the Liberal government to constantly act as if events in the United States require policy changes in Canada is pandering to a combination of media-induced ignorance and cynical political opportunism.

At this point, it’s no wonder that many of Canada’s problems are getting worse and worse. Our ‘leaders’ would rather virtue-signal about events in other countries than look at what’s happening right here at home.
