Are the Liberals trying to lose?
Chrystia Freeland is often spoken of as a potential successor to Justin Trudeau.
That may end up happening (though she’s more likely to get a job at an international institution).
However, the one thing that would cause some to doubt her potential for success as a federal party leader is how clueless and out-of-touch Freeland often seems about what Canadians are going through.
For example, laughing and smiling as she announced the freezing of the bank accounts of Freedom Convoy protesters was seen as wildly discordant.
And of course, her advice to Canadians to cancel Disney+ was widely ridiculed:
Chrystia Freeland:“let’s cut that @DisneyPlus subscription”
Feeling the sting of inflation, Canada’s Minister of Finance announced Saturday that she cut her DisneyPlus subscription for a savings of $13.99 per month, and encourages all Canadians to do the same.”

And now, Freeland has yet again shown how deeply out-of-touch she is.
Apparently, Freeland thinks the carbon tax is “helping” Canadians and isn’t making things more expensive:
“Chrystia Freeland: I personally live (in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Canada) directly on the subway, next to bike lanes where you can walk or bike to everything. That is how a lot of Toronto families live and I believe the price on carbon pollution is helpful”

The Conservatives should really hope that Chrystia Freeland and the Liberals keep saying these types of things, because the Liberals will lose if they are associated with the kind of arrogant, elitist, and out-of-touch thinking that Freeland ‘exemplifies’ in her remarks.
And CPC leader Pierre Poilievre slammed Freeland’s comments:
“No, Minister Freeland, the carbon tax is not “helpful”.
Canadians are out of money.
Liberals are out of touch.
Axe the carbon tax.”

The Liberals have seemingly designed their policies to benefit a very small percentage of their constituents, with no regard for the regional variations in the country, or the fact that managing without a car is simply impossible for many people in this vast and wide-open country.
There is also a disturbingly delusional aspect to the deputy pm and finance minister claiming that a tax deliberately designed to drive up prices is somehow not doing what it was meant to do.
The whole point of the carbon tax is to make things more expensive and reduce consumption. It’s about altering behaviour, and it does so by making life less affordable. By pretending that’s not the case, Freeland and the Liberals are deciding to live in a world of fantasy economics.
Liberal economic policies are clearing failing the nation, and Canada needs to scrap the carbon tax and start rewarding real productivity instead of taking more money away from the hardworking Canadian People.
