Nearly two-thirds of Canadians have a positive view of the U.S. Vice President & Democratic Party nominee for President.
A new survey shows a majority of Canadians have a positive view of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to Angus Reid, 64% of Canadians hold a favourable view of Harris, while 25% have an unfavourable view.
By contrast, far fewer have a positive view of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Just 18% view Trump favourably, while 76% view him unfavourably.
Harris holds slight favorability edge even among Conservatives
In a sign that Twitter (where many right-leaning Canadian commentators often insinuate that Trump is popular in Canada) is not real life, the poll shows Harris holding a slight net favorability edge even among current Canadian Conservative supporters.
38% of Canadian Conservatives have a positive view of Trump, while 54% have a negative view.
Meanwhile, 39% of Canadian Conservative supporters have a positive view of Harris, compared to 47% who hold a negative view.
Trump’s net favorability rating among Canadian Conservatives is -16 points, while Harris’s net favourability rating among Canadian Conservatives is -8 points.
If you are wondering why the Conservatives are taking a hands-off approach to the U.S. election, this is why. If Canadian Conservative voters were a U.S. state, that state would be a competitive state with an almost even number of Democrats and Republicans.
This is also why the Conservatives are more moderate on social issues than the Republicans. The two parties are not the same, and attempts to conflate them are based on an inaccurate assessment of reality.
For those who would dismiss this poll because it conflicts with what they may see online, it is important to remember that Angus Reid has been consistently showing a strong Conservative lead in the polls. It would be illogical to disbelieve the poll on Harris and Trump while believing the polls about the Canadian federal scene. The fact is that pollsters may not be perfect, but they generally give us a broadly accurate picture of what people think. And that picture shows Donald Trump is deeply unpopular in Canada.
