Canadian defence company Roshel is now producing armoured vehicles in Ukraine

In another sign of Canada’s potential as a military producer, Canadian defence firm Roshel is now producing armoured vehicles in Ukraine.

According to a report by Ukrinform, a Ukrainian state media outlet, production began two months ago at an undisclosed location (translation):

“Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Roshel has moved part of its production to Ukraine. As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, Roshel CEO Romash Shimonov made this statement during his participation in the conference “Protecting Ukraine’s Future: Security Guarantees and Demining for Recovery and Reconstruction.”

“We have completed the planning stage and have already launched production facilities in Ukraine. The enterprise was opened two months ago and is now actively operating,” Shimonov said.”

“According to him, by expanding production in Ukraine, the company gained access to a unique workforce. “We got incredible people who have the skills, knowledge, and experience that can be implemented in real solutions. You won’t find this anywhere else,” Shimonov emphasized.”

Roshel has already delivered nearly 2000 armoured vehicles to Ukraine, a significant contribution given the importance of protected mobility on the drone-infested battlefield.

By producing directly in Ukraine, Roshel is deepening ties between the Canadian military-industrial complex and the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, something that will have long-term benefits for both nations.

The more Canada can learn from Ukraine, the more we can integrate the hard-won lessons of modern warfare into our armed forces, which will also help inform our procurement process. As a result, Canada will be safer, and our military buildup will be more effective than it otherwise would have been.

And on top of all of this, Canada can be proud to see one of our top defence firms standing resolutely on the right side of history.
