‘One Person, One Vote’ Is Sacred

We must protect universal suffrage and resist all attempts to erode it.

Throughout our history, Canadians have fought to expand the right to vote.

On battlefields around the world, Canadians lost their lives fighting against regimes that opposed democracy.

Those who came before us did not fight so hard and make so many sacrifices for us to give those rights away now.

No amount of money or power should buy someone an extra vote.

Nobody should lose their vote for being ‘too old’ or receiving government benefits.

At a time when authoritarianism is rising around the world, and some try to poke at the edges of our hard-won freedoms to see how much can be eroded without backlash, we must draw a firm line in the sand and declare that we will resist all backsliding on our democratic rights.

Canada must remain a free and democratic nation.

One Person, One Vote is a sacred principle, and it must be defended.
