Ontario Premier Doug Ford is correct. Trump is not to be trusted.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford didn’t hold back when speaking to the media following the breakdown of U.S. trade talks. Ford accurately noted that Trump is “not to be trusted,” and that he “would steal your lunch money on the first day. He’d steal the toque off your head the second day, and the third day, he’d steal your running shoes”:
It’s good to see Canadian leaders putting things in such clear terms. The time for walking on eggshells and pretending Trump is an honest broker has long passed. Trump is dishonest, exploitative, and has zero respect for Canada’s sovereignty. He views reasonable compromises as weakness, and then demands more. His signed agreements mean little. He treats authoritarian states like Russia and North Korea with deference, while threatening democratic countries like Canada.
Canadians will never give up our sovereignty to Trump or anyone else.
