Trump Threatens New Tariffs on Canadian-Made Vehicles, Auto Parts, and Steel

The U.S. President has said he will use “economic force” to annex Canada, something his misguided defenders in this country conveniently ignore.

U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened another round of tariffs on Canada, this time further targeting Canadian-made autos, auto parts, and steel:

As always, Trump’s statement is full of lies.

The U.S. trade deficit with Canada is due to the U.S. voluntarily importing Canadian energy, much of which is imported at a discounted rate.

Without energy imports, the U.S. would have a trade surplus with Canada.

Further, the U.S. has a large services trade surplus with Canada, which Trump leaves out of the conversation.

To add to the hypocrisy, Trump has sought to increase U.S. imports of Canadian oil & gas, which would increase the U.S. trade deficit with Canada, the same deficit he claims as one of his many ‘justifications’ for tariffs on Canada.

Trump’s misguided Canadian backers (a group that includes many of the pro-Trump CPC-aligned influencers and MPs like Jamil Jivani) conveniently ignore those facts and ignore that Trump has threatened to use economic force to strip Canadians of our sovereignty.

That’s why we must continue to get the facts out there and continue to speak the truth about what Trump is doing, and ensure the lies spread by his propagandists are countered and defeated.
