Garneau – the first Canadian to travel to space – is a former cabinet minister, and served most recently in the foreign minister role until 2021.
One of the few politicians widely respected across the political spectrum is resigning.
Marc Garneau was Canada’s foreign minister until 2021, when he was shuffled out of the cabinet in a move that caught many people by surprise.
In 1984, Garneau became the first Canadian to travel to space on space shuttle mission STS-41-G. Garneau went on two additional missions, STS-77 and STS-97.
