“Maybe it would be best to find someone not associated with it?” said Melissa Lantsman referencing David Johnston’s position in the Trudeau Foundation.
As reactions continue to roll in following Justin Trudeau’s appointment of David Johnston as the ‘Special Rapporteur’ on foreign election interference, early indicators are that the Official Opposition will be highly critical of the move.
On Twitter, Conservative Deputy Leader Melissa Lantsman said it would be better to have appointed someone not connected to the Trudeau Foundation, and a public inquiry would be even better than that:
“Trudeau appoints Trudeau Foundation insider to tell us that we don’t need a public inquiry into Beijing’s donations to the Trudeau Foundation & their election interference.
They got $200,000 from Beijing.
Maybe it would be best to find someone not associated with it?
Or, just call a public inquiry.”

Lantsman’s call for an inquiry is backed by strong public opinion.
A clear majority of the public – including both Conservative and Liberal supporters – are pushing for a public inquiry, something the Prime Minister continues to resist.
