It’s easy for the Liberal government to say they support Israel and stand against terror. But the actions have to actually match those claims.
Justin Trudeau has said many of the right words when it comes to supporting Israel.
He has stated his support for Israel’s right to defend itself.
He has denounced Hamas.
But words are easy.
Actions are what really send a message about what someone believes and where a government stands.
Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives have also expressed their support for Israel’s right to defend itself.
They have denounced Hamas.
And – unlike Trudeau – they are seeking to take real action to demonstrate that their words have meaning.
In the House of Commons, the Conservatives pushed to pass Bill C-350, which would have designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran as a terrorist organization.
The Liberals blocked it:

What makes this especially egregious is that the IRGC played a direct role in Hamas’ terrorist attack against Israel as reported by the Wall Street Journal:
“Iranian security officials helped plan Hamas’s Saturday surprise attack on Israel and gave the green light for the assault at a meeting in Beirut last Monday, according to senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, another Iran-backed militant group.
Officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had worked with Hamas since August to devise the air, land and sea incursions—the most significant breach of Israel’s borders since the 1973 Yom Kippur War—those people said.
Details of the operation were refined during several meetings in Beirut attended by IRGC officers and representatives of four Iran-backed militant groups, including Hamas, which holds power in Gaza, and Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group and political faction in Lebanon, they said.”
Labelling the IRGC as a terrorist group was a no-brainer years ago.
Now, in the wake of Hamas’ genocidal attack against Israel that the IRGC helped plan and plot, it is an absolute necessity to label them as a terrorist group.
Doing so would ensure the government of Canada can take stronger action to protect this country from the IRGC, and would send a clear message to Israel and other democratic allies of Canada that we are actually taking the threat from Iran seriously.
By blocking Bill C-350, the Liberals are making their supportive words towards Israel look increasingly empty.
