In Weak Statement, Trudeau Yet Again Conflates Anti-Semitism & ‘Islamophobia’

Why is the Prime Minister unwilling to just make a clear and unequivocal denunciation of the vile anti-Semitism spreading in Canada?

Last week, I wrote about how politicians like Justin Trudeau constantly refuse to denounce anti-Semitism without also conflating it with ‘Islamophobia’, and why it is wrong for them to do so:

“We are NOT seeing pro-Israel groups walking on our streets chanting slogans calling for the murder of Palestinians and Muslims.

We are NOT seeing supporters of the Jewish community marching in support of listed terrorist organizations.

We are NOT seeing supporters of Israel threatening, intimidating, and attacking Muslims.

And, we are NOT seeing a rising in anti-Muslim hate crimes in the way we are seeing a rise in Anti-Semitic hate crimes.

So, this is not a situation where there is some sort of comparable rise in hatred towards both Jewish People and Muslim People.

This is a situation in which there is a clear and identifiable surge in hatred towards Jewish People.

Further, if we are being truly honest with ourselves, we know that much of the surge in hatred towards Jewish People is being driven by Muslim individuals.

Of course, most Muslim Canadians are not out in the streets demonizing Jewish People, and most Muslim Canadians are not acting in any sort of anti-Semitic way.

However, it is simply a fact to point out that here in Canada, in the United States, and in Europe, a significant portion of the surge in anti-Semitism is being driven by Muslim individuals.”

Unfortunately, even the ongoing surge of anti-Semitism – including some absolutely horrific and hate-filled rallies in the past week – have done nothing to convince Justin Trudeau to acknwolede that what we are seeing is hate being directly targeted against Jewish People.

In a statement following more hate filled anti-Semitic rallies, Justin Trudeau again conflated anti-Semitism and ‘Islamophobia’:

“When we see or hear hateful language and imagery, we must condemn it. The display of a swastika by an individual on Parliament Hill is unacceptable. Canadians have the right to assemble peacefully – but we cannot tolerate antisemitism, Islamophobia, or hate of any kind.”

In response, many have noted that it is absurd for Trudeau to be mentioning ‘Islamophobia’ in the same breath as anti-Semitism:

“In light of daily calls for Jewish genocide happening on Canada’s streets, this statement — which trivializes and generalizes — is worse than no statement at all. What a dangerous abdication of leadership.”

“PM of @JustinTrudeau

There are calls for genocide of Jews across . Annihilation of . Jewish people & businesses r targeted & terrorized. Mass demonstrations. Why do you speak of Islamophobia?

And why are u silent Antisemitism Envoy @DeborahLyonsSE? Why? How?”

Justin Trudeau’s statement is weak, craven, and demonstrates his pathetic unwillingness to clearly and unequivocally call out anti-Semitism.

Contrast Trudeau’s statement with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s statement, which was a clear denunciation of anti-Semitism without adding anything else on to it:

“All Canadians should condemn the displays of hate and antisemitism that we continue to see at demonstrations across the country, including the targeting of Jewish businesses and the open display of a swastika on Parliament Hill.

Conservatives will continue to stand against hate.”

Poilievre gets it, while Trudeau clearly does not.

The reality is this:

Canada is not facing a surge of anti-Islam rallies.

We are facing a surge of anti-Semitic rallies.

To address this rising tide of hate against Jewish People, we need leaders who are willing to speak the truth without reservation, and that is something Justin Trudeau has repeatedly failed to do.

Trudeau’s failure is enabling the most hateful people in our society, and is undermining Canadian values to an incredibly dangerous extent.
