The United Nations has failed to live up to its own stated values as an organization. Instead, it seems to exist mainly to push a false equivalency between democracies and authoritarian states, doing a massive disservice to freedom and human flourishing.
In many sci-fi shows and movies, the United Nations is portrayed as the future government of a United Earth. In many instances – like in Star Trek – this is portrayed as a good thing, and the underlying idea seems to be that the world unified largely around Western principles like individual rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
Unfortunately, that view of the United Nations appears based on what it was in its early years, not what it is today.
Because if we were to project a future ‘United Earth’ off the basis of the United Nations as it exists today, it would almost certainly be a brutally dystopian future of oppression, primitive backwardness, savagery, autocracy, and the elevation of the most brutal dictators above all else.
That’s a sad commentary of the United Nations as it is currently constituted, with countries like Iran – a key sponsor of Hamas – helming the Human Rights Council, and regimes like Syria, North Korea, Russia, China, and others being placed in positions of influence and oversight in what seems to be some kind of sick joke without a punchline.
The United Nations spends much of its time being used by authoritarian anti-democratic states to lob rhetorical attacks against democratic nations like Israel and the United States, and the UN format treats authoritarian states as equivalent to democratic states.
In fact, it often treats those authoritarian states far better.
When Syrian dictator Bashar Al-Assad was massacring hundreds of thousands of people – including Palestinian refugees – the UN denunciation was muted.
Yet, when Israel fights back against a genocidal terror group, the UN Secretary General keeps putting himself on camera to call for a ceasefire that would benefit Hamas, while ignoring the UN’s complicity in Hamas’ use of human shields:
“The war in the Middle East is having a staggering and unacceptable number of civilian casualties, including women and children, every day.
This must stop.
I reiterate my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.”

Guterres also claims he’s ‘shocked’ at UN schools being hit, apparently ignoring the fact that Hamas deliberately fires rockets right beside UN schools – something that the UN cannot credibly claim to be ignorant about:
“I am deeply shocked that 2 @UNRWA schools were struck in less than 24 hours in Gaza.
Dozens of people – many women & children – were killed & injured as they were seeking safety in @UN premises.
I reaffirm that our premises are inviolable.”

And here’s where we get to the real crux of the problem.
The UN has been operating in Gaza for years. They have been deeply involved in all aspects of life in Gaza. UN officials are closely connected to Gazan government officials – AKA Hamas.
So, there is no way the UN could not have known what was happening at a place like Al-Shifa hospital, as evidence continues to pour in showing that Hamas was using Al-Shifa hospital as a base, and even brought hostages there to be executed:
BREAKING:
The commander of the 7th Brigade, Col. Elad Tzuri, says they found the body of the 19-year-old hostage Noa Marciano who had been murdered by Hamas inside the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. pic.twitter.com/ARY51EOFW8

BREAKING:
Israel releases video evidence proving the existence of a complex tunnel system near the Al-Shifa hospital.
The debate is over. Israel wouldn’t have been able to build such tunnels in two days.

There’s zero chance all of this happened without the United Nations being aware of it.
The UN has failed
Given that the UN was founded in the wake of WW2 – a war in which much of the world came together to defeat genocidal anti-Semites – the UN’s inability to see the difference between the democratic state of Israel and genocidal Hamas terrorists is sadly ironic.
The UN has failed.
Going forward, the world needs an alliance of democracies – whether an expanded NATO or more cooperation between democratic states on a regional basis.
Whatever the case may be, citizens in democratic nations need to stop looking to the UN as some sort of moral arbiter or voice for human rights.
Democratic nations that respect the rule of law are the true upholders of freedom and justice in this world.
