The world is simply too dangerous a place for Canada to continue on our current path.
At the end of the day, a nation can only be what its people are.
If the people of a nation are beaten down with relentless guilt, attacks on their history by their own government, and a demonization of the values upon which the nation is based, and if a people’s kindness is turned against them and used to induce weakness and timidity, the nation itself will be weak and timid.
By contrast, if a nation is uplifted by national pride, a confidence in our shared values, a full understanding of our history that emphasizes the good while still acknowledging the bad, and if a people’s kindness is turned into a further strength by expanding it into a belief in defending what is right and just, then a nation will be confident and strong.
Clearly, Canada has been on the former path for far too long, and it’s a path we cannot afford.
The world is far too dangerous, and authoritarian states and terror groups are far too confident, for a great nation like Canada to be mired in guilt and to hold ourselves back.
Instead, we must overcome our ‘niceness’ and become more assertive in defence of our values. We must recognize that our grounding in the Western Civilizational values of individual liberty, democratic governance, and scientific rationalism is a source of strength that we must uphold and defend.
If we rebuild our strength – starting on a person to person level by eschewing the relentless guilt and timidity that has been imposed on us – then we can fulfill our true potential as a country, make a real contribution to our alliances, expand our prosperity, and help turn the tide against those who want to destroy the free world.
But if we fail to do that, the alternative will be stagnation, decline, and ultimately, collapse.
