69% Of Canadians Oppose Carbon Tax Increase

A majority of people in all age groups and in all regions oppose it.

The carbon tax continues to become less and less popular, as Canadians struggle with the cost of living and as it becomes more and more apparent that weakening our economy does nothing to help the planet.

Now, a new survey by Leger for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation shows widespread opposition to the planned increase in the carbon tax set to take place in April.

According to the poll, 69% oppose it, while 31% support it.

62% of 18-34 year olds oppose it, 71% of 35-54 year olds oppose it, and 71% of those aged 55+ oppose it.

In B.C. & Quebec – where the federal carbon tax is not applied due to provincial substitutes – 64% oppose the increase, while 72% of people outside those two provinces oppose it.

63% of urban residents oppose it, 70% of suburban residents oppose it, and 75% of rural residents oppose it.

The Liberal government – with the support of the NDP – is now ignoring the clear majority of Canadians by pushing ahead with their carbon tax increase, which is likely to further deepen the unpopularity of both parties.
