We cannot defeat evil by pretending it doesn’t exist.
Hamas is a psychopathic organization.
It deliberately seeks to maximize suffering and death, while openly espousing genocidal intentions.
When confronted with psychopathic organizations, many people shut down emotionally.
This is understandable, since psychopathy is so far removed from the way most people’s minds work.
The problem however is that this process of shutting down leads people to act as if the psychopaths don’t exist, and then pin all the blame and responsibility on those who are actually reasonable and persuadable.
We see this in the many people who simply refuse to admit that the war in Gaza could end today if Hamas simply released the hostages and put down their weapons.
We see this also in the many people who refuse to admit that the war in Ukraine could end today if Russia simply removed their troops from Ukraine.
Our inability to confront psychopathic organizations results in a sort of double-crime against those who are attacked by them.
Reasonable and persuadable nations like Israel & Ukraine are subjected both to being attacked by psychopaths, and then being wrongly blamed and held responsible for the attack taking place.
To escape this mental trap, we must relearn the lessons of the past, and understand that we cannot defeat evil by pretending it doesn’t exist. Evil must be confronted, and evil must be held accountable.
