Trump Boots Bolton

Says “I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions…”

US President Donald Trump has fired National Security Advisor John Bolton.

Bolton has been a long-time neo-conservative who regularly pushed for more US military intervention worldwide, which was at odds with Trump’s campaign message of reducing the US role as the ‘world police.’

Bolton had also long been seeking a US war with Iran, while Trump – despite ripping up the Iran nuclear deal – has sought to talk with Iran’s leaders.

Trump made the announcement on Twitter:

“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore….”

“….I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.”

Bolton has pushed back on Twitter, claiming that he offered to resign, rather than being fired:

“I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, “Let’s talk about it tomorrow.”‘

It’s expected that Trump’s next national security advisor will line up more closely with his priorities, especially as the US election nears.

Poor HR on Trump’s part. Why hire somebody without doing a simple search? What would Trump do if nobody was willing to work with / for him?

Bolton is an uber hawk, he never met a country he did not want to start a war with – it is good he is gone.
