Former US Vice President Mike Pence attended the Inauguration, while President Trump – in a departure from what defeated candidates usually do – did not.
Joe Biden, a former US Senator and former Vice President of the United States, has been sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, shortly after Kamala Harris was sworn in as Vice President.
Biden takes office in an America that is politically divided, mourning hundreds of thousands of lost citizens, and struggling economically, as are most countries in the world amid the damage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Biden has pledged to focus on unity in his speech.
