The Liberal-NDP Pact Voted Against A Conservative Motion That Would Have Removed The Carbon Tax From Food Production

Both the Liberals & the NDP are putting their far-left ideology ahead of the needs of Canadians who are being slammed by rising prices.

We continue to hear both the Liberals & the NDP claim they care about inflation.

Jagmeet Singh regularly puts out videos and Tweets where he blames food price inflation on ‘greedy’ grocery stores and big corporations.

Singh repeatedly uses the term ‘greedflation,’ in an attempt to give people the impression that inflation is being driven by the private sector.

However, reality doesn’t match up with the claims being made by Singh.

In fact, inflation is being driven by central bank policy and government policy.

The Bank of Canada massively expanded the money supply.

The Liberal government massively increased spending, while also imposing inflationary taxes like the carbon tax that further drive up prices.

Jagmeet Singh supports those policies, and is propping the Liberals up as we speak.

His support for the Liberals in Parliament reduces their fear of accountability, and gives them the ability to ignore more reasonable and moderate voices that would oppose their high tax policies.

We are seeing both the Liberals & the NDP put their far-left ideology (taxing Canadians and weakening our energy sector to ‘save the planet’ despite Canada’s low contribution to global emissions) ahead of the best interests of Canadians.

This was proven again quite recently, as the Liberals & NDP voted against a Conservative motion that would have removed the carbon tax from food production.

This is the text of the motion:

“That, given that,

(i) Canada’s Food Price Report 2023 states that a typical farm will pay $150,000 in carbon tax per year when the carbon tax is tripled,

(ii) families will pay an additional $1,065 for groceries in 2023 for a total of $16,288 due to increased costs being passed on to consumers,

(iii) food bank visits were at an all-time high reaching 1.5 million in March 2022, a 15% increase from the previous year according to Food Banks Canada,

(iv) 20% of Canadians are skipping meals and grocery price inflation is at 11%,

the House call on the government to cancel the carbon tax that is applied to all food inputs and production, including:

(a) all farm fuels;

(b) grain drying;

(c) fertilizer;

(d) transportation; and

(e) other appropriate aspects of the food supply system.”

It’s an eminently common-sense motion. At a time of surging inflation and food costs that are causing more and more harm to Canadians, it is absurd and counterproductive to tax food production costs further.

Yet, the Liberals & NDP still voted the motion down:

“BREAKING

The Liberal-NDP coalition has defeated our Conservative motion to remove the carbon tax from food production.

The cost of food will continue to rise because of Justin Trudeau’s out-of-touch government.”

“Yesterday, the House of Commons called on the government to cancel the carbon tax that is applied to all food inputs and production, including: (a) farm fuels; (b) grain drying; (c) fertilizer; (d) transportation.

The motion was defeated by the Liberal/NDP coalition.”

The Liberals & NDP had a chance to actually show they care about inflation and want to help Canadians deal with surging food prices.

Instead, they voted against a motion that would have provided immediate relief.

This just goes to show that rising inflation is something the Liberal-NDP Pact wants to continue, and they will put their far-left ideology ahead of everything else.
