Liberal Government Continues To Spread Misinformation On Bill C-11

They had a chance to prove they weren’t trying to censor and control individual user content. Instead, they rejected a key Senate amendment that would have exempted such content.

As they seek to take away our rights and freedoms and turn us into a country that more closely resembles Communist China, the Trudeau Liberals are spreading misinformation on Bill C-11.

The Liberals continue to claim that the Conservatives are lying about C-11 being a ‘censorship bill,’ but in doing so the Liberals are actually the ones spreading falsehoods.

Here’s what Liberal Minister Pablo Rodriguez said:

“The Conservatives continue to deliberately misinform Canadians about this bill and use it as a fundraising tool to fill their coffers.

Let’s be clear, Bill C-11 is about making streaming platforms pay their fair share towards Canadian music, TV shows and movies. That’s it.”

Here’s the thing:

Rodriguez is lying.

All along, the Liberals have claimed that Bill C-11 wouldn’t give the government the power to regulate user generated content. And all along, critics of the legislation have pointed out that it actually does give the government the power to do so.

So, the Canadian Senate called the Liberals’ bluff.

They amended C-11 and sent it back to the House of Commons. The amendment was crucial, as it changed C-11 to clearly exempt user generated content from being captured by the bill.

This gave the Liberals the chance to make good on their claims that C-11 wouldn’t impact user-generated content.

So what did they do?

They rejected the amendments and removed them from the bill, ignoring all the concerns of Senators and Canadian content creators.

As noted by Senator Leo Housakos, the decision by the Liberals to remove the amendments makes it clear the legislation is all about controlling what individual Canadian internet users can say online:

“If this were true @pablorodriguez why did you remove the Senate amendment that would puts into the bill what you stated is your intent NOT to regulate user generated content? There’s only one answer ie you want to regulate UGC. #Censorship #C11 #KillBillC11”

The Liberals were hoping to lie and bluster their way through to imposing C-11 without facing any blowback. But it didn’t work.

Canadians like us are pushing back and the Liberals are being exposed for their dangerous anti-freedom, pro-censorship agenda. We need to keep fighting and pledge never to back down.
