Trudeau Trails Both Poilievre & “None Of Them” As Best Choice For PM

Even among many who voted Liberal in 2021, Trudeau is not their top choice.

According to a new Angus Reid poll, Justin Trudeau not only trails Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on the question of who would be the best Prime Minister, he also trails “none of them”.

32% said Poilievre would be the best choice for Prime Minister, compared to just 17% who pick Justin Trudeau. Trudeau is barely ahead of Jagmeet Singh, who is the top choice of 15% of Canadians. 11% say they aren’t sure/can’t say who their top pick would be.

However, Trudeau isn’t actually in second place. In between Poilievre and Trudeau is “none of them.” 26% chose “none of them are a good option” when asked who they would pick for Prime Minister. Trudeau trails “none of them” among all demographics except for women over the age of 55, where he is tied with “none” at 28%.

Poilievre leads both “none” and Trudeau among men of all ages, and among women aged 35-54. Among women aged 18-34, Singh leads with 29% compared to “none” at 22% and Poilievre at 21%. Trudeau is at just 9% among young women, a group which once constituted a core aspect of his support base.

Also ominous for the Liberals is that out of those who voted Liberal in 2021, just 45% picked Trudeau as their top choice for Prime Minister. 26% of 2021 Liberal voters picked “none,” while 12% picked Singh. 7% chose Poilievre.

It would be a significant understatement to say these are brutal numbers for the Liberals. Since the Liberal Party is now largely built around the Trudeau cult of personality, they have little to fall back on if Canadians decisively turn against him. Unfortunately for the Liberals, as more and more polls emerge showing the Liberals trailing and Justin Trudeau’s popularity in rapid decline, it would seem that decisive turn against the PM is indeed under way.
