Thanks To Justin Trudeau, ‘Business Liberals’ Are An Endangered Species

‘Blue Liberals’ and ‘Business Liberals’ will likely be voting Conservative in the next election.

The Liberal Party of Canada once had a prominent faction of ‘Business Liberals,’ which often overlapped with ‘Blue Liberals.’ They favoured fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, and pro-business policy, yet – for one reason or another – didn’t feel at home in the Conservative Party.

There was some benefit to this, as having fiscal conservatives in both of Canada’s main political parties helped ensure that reasonable economic policies would endure even when the Conservatives were out of power.

But thanks to Justin Trudeau, ‘Business Liberals’ are now an endangered species.

Justin Trudeau has turned the Liberals into a socialist party, dispensing with fiscal responsibility and running up massive budget deficits. He’s also appointed eco-loons like Steven Guilbeault to positions of tremendous power, further distancing the Liberals from any kind of moderation.

And now, those who once could have been considered ‘Business Liberals’ are making their displeasure known.

Former Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge – appointed by Jean Chretien – slammed the 2024 budget:

Former Finance Minister Bill Morneau also criticized the budget:

“Bill Morneau, Trudeau’s finance minister from 2015-2020, slammed the capital gains tax raise today. “This was very clearly something that while I was there, we resisted. We resisted it for a very specific reason: concerned about the growth of the country.”

Year after year, the Liberals have moved more and more towards being a vehicle for Justin Trudeau’s cult of personality.

As a result, those who value fiscal responsibility, political moderation, and responsible governance have been pushed out.

Thanks to Justin Trudeau, Business Liberals are an endangered species.

And given Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s pro-individual freedom approach to social issues combined with his emphasis on balanced budgets, fiscal responsibility, and lower taxes, we can expect that many Business Liberals will be voting Conservative when Canadians go to the polls.
