Erin O’Toole has gone from opposing ‘Liberal-lite’ and opposing cancel culture to being praised by Justin Trudeau for trying to cancel a Conservative MP.
While Erin O’Toole faces growing backlash from Conservatives for the obvious hatchet-job he’s trying to pull on Derek Sloan, he has at least one supporter:
Trudeau praised O’Toole’s move to try and remove Sloan:
“Political parties need to remain vigilant, particularly in the wake of what we’ve seen in the United States from the infiltration or the active presence of fringe or extremist or violent or unacceptable or intolerant elements. That’s something that we constantly need to work towards as all politicians in Canada. The Liberal Party has been calling for Erin O’Toole to remove Derek Sloan from caucus for many, many months now following a number of unacceptable comments that he has made. We are pleased that Erin O’Toole has finally decided to take leadership and we’ll see how that unfolds.”
Trudeau’s praise won’t sit well with many Conservatives, and will surprise many people who remember when O’Toole claimed he would oppose ‘cancel culture’ and bragged about standing up for Sloan.
This bait-and-switch isn’t going unnoticed, and the treatment of Sloan is further dividing the Conservative Party.
