“Canadian elected officials, the media, and other influencers have a responsibility to verify facts before commenting, particularly during times of war. These false and ill-advised statements have fueled hateful rhetoric targeting Jews online and on our streets, including Jewish students on campus and attendees at an antisemitism conference in Ottawa.”
The Liberal government is still refusing to admit that Hamas lied to the world when they falsely blamed Israel for ‘bombing’ a hospital:
The false story is still spreading around the world, doing incalculable damage.
Thus, ever news organization and politician that spread it – and thus spread Hamas propaganda – must put in the effort to undo as much of the damage as possible as fast as possible.
But instead, Trudeau and the Liberal government are taking it slow – letting the damage pile up.
In the wake of all of this, three Canadian Jewish organizations, B’nai Brith Canada, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, and Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, have issued a statement calling on the government to retract and clarify their comments.
The full statement can be read below:
“In light of clear evidence demonstrating that the hospital explosion in Gaza on Oct. 17 was a result of Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket (PIJ), B’nai Brith Canada, CIJA and Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center are calling on the Government of Canada to retract and clarify its earlier comments that can only be interpreted as giving credence to the false narrative of the Hamas terror groups.
Using lies and disinformation is a longstanding Hamas tactic. It is further imperative to remember that the Health Ministry in Gaza is run by Hamas, a listed-terrorist entity according to Canadian law. Any information published by them, and other Gaza-based “government” sources should, at the very least, be thoroughly vetted before being shared publicly, particularly given efforts by these groups to delegitimize Israel.
Canadian elected officials, the media, and other influencers have a responsibility to verify facts before commenting, particularly during times of war. These false and ill-advised statements have fueled hateful rhetoric targeting Jews online and on our streets, including Jewish students on campus and attendees at an antisemitism conference in Ottawa.
We also mourn the senseless loss of Palestinian life from this rocket and expect all those who claim to stand with the Palestinian people to condemn Palestinian Islamic Jihad for these deaths.
We acknowledge Canada’s support and solidarity with Israel since the beginning of this most recent crisis, but it is a matter of urgency for the Government of Canada to set the record straight.”

The above statement is 100% correct.
The government must immediately retract their comments. Every moment in which the government fails to do so is a moment in which they are aiding and abetting the spread of anti-Semitism and allowing lies to proliferate.
